| America's Cup Aloha Challenge skippered by John Kolius will launch Abracadabra 2000 on June 12. This will be the third syndicate to launch a new IACC boat. Russell Coutts, skipper of Team New Zealand won the One Design Chesapeake Grand Prix regatta. The race was part of the Baltimore Water Festival featured in our Photo Gallery. |
| Around Alone The Final Report! Only two of a starting 7 boats finished Class I. Soldini (FILA) took first and Thiercelin (SOMEWHERE) took second. Class II started with 9 boats and finished with 7. First place went to Mouligne (Cray Valley), Garside (Magellan Alpha) took second and Van Liew (Balance Bar) third. Autissier presented Soldini with the Seamanship Award for his superb sailing while rescuing Autissier from her overturned yacht. Soldini also received the Arthur B. Hansen Rescue Medal for rescuing Autissier and the Spirit of Around Alone Award for best embodying the values and traditions of the race. He also received an honorary doctorate in the Humanities from the College of Charleston. The Russian, Viktor Yazykov dedicated the gold earing he earned rounding Cape Horn to the memory of Harry Mitchell. Mitchell disappeared near the Horn in the last race. Lacking prize money the race organizers gave each skipper a free T-shirt. |
