marinersguide.com The Magic and Mythology of Nautical Knots

The Captain's Bend

The Captain's Bend is an improved knot for tying two lines together. It is less likely to capsize and the ends are less likely to foul.

Tying the Knot
1. Make a loop in one line, bitter end over the standing part.
2. Lay the second line parallel to the first and feed the end up through the loop.
3. Make a second loop parallel to the first.
4. Pass both ends up through the center of both loops.
5. Draw up the knot.
6. Separate the lines.
