Before we talk about the nuts and bolts of setting up a Raspberry Pi let’s take a look at the whole boat network approach.

It’s a boat, so the first and foremost application we want is navigation. Any PC whether Windows, Linux or even Mac can display a chart and your position with free opensource software. I used .The Captain. for years. It was expensive and required another program, .GPSgate. to receive networked GPS data. Recently I switched to openCPN, mostly because .The Captain. I had wouldn’t run on Windows 7. A side note: I’d like to thank MicroSoft for making a lot of software obsolete … AGAIN.
